Tucked away on leafy Hemingford Road, Islington, is the Tamil Prince pub/restaurant. Unknown to us only a few days ago, such was the quality of our experience there, we will now be spreading the word about it far and wide!
On a gloriously sun kissed afternoon, we sat outside and were so preoccupied by our food, that our favourite pastime of people watching didn't even enter or consciousness!
Outrageously moorish chicken tandoori lollipops with sweet chilli chutney for starter were followed by roti, a larger buttery flaky balloon-like channa bhattura bread paired with chick pea masala, coconut pilau rice and, the coup de grace, lamb chettinad and thanjavur chicken.
Never has meat been served to us so tender in an Indian restaurant. Never has the accompanying sauce been so flavoursome with the spices so definable and fragrant. And never has the roti been of such a perfect consistency with a warm, buttery prominence.
This isn't just comfort food, it's food for the gods, delivered from the heavens that us mere mortels have had the privilege of savouring. Every last morsel was dispatched and appreciated.
The huge glass window that separates the cooking area from indoor diners enables customers the opportunity to observe the team of chefs fastidiously making the meals. The menu here isn't extensive, this directly correlates to the diligent approach of creating something special as it's immediately clear that full focus is channeled into what is produced with the utmost skill and dedication.
Quite simply, The Tamil Prince has to be but ventured to for those who adore southern Indian cuisine, and we will certainly be back!
